Elbit Systems of America’s Kollsman EVS II Selected for Embraer Lineage 1000 Executive Aircraft

Merrimack, NH - Elbit Systems of America, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ: ESLT) is pleased to announce the selection of its Kollsman Enhanced Vision System, (EVS II), on Embraer’s new Lineage 1000 aircraft. This selection marks Embraer’s first aircraft to be certified with an Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS). EFVS will enable Embraer’s customers to realize the advantages of this new technology which is a part of the changing air traffic structure in both the United States and in Europe. The Kollsman EVS II allows pilots to see through darkness and adverse weather, by displaying an infra-red sensor image on a Head-Up-Display (HUD) and operate as if it were natural vision down to 100’ height above touchdown zone. Elbit Systems of America Kollsman continues to lead the industry in Enhanced Vision Systems. In 2001, the company was the first to certify an Enhanced Flight Vision System primarily for safety and situation awareness. Later, the FAA recognized the benefits of EFVS equipped aircraft, and passed a rule allowing Part 91 aircraft operational landing credit, that would allow for a decision height of 100 feet if the runway environment was visible using EFVS. After receiving numerous technical awards, Elbit Systems of America Kollsman continued to further the product by certifying the EVS II last year, which is smaller, lighter and up to three times more sensitive than EVS I. EVS II is a critical part of the FAA’s Next Generation Air Traffic System (NGATS), and changes are expected soon to allow Part 121 and 135 operators to take advantage of the lower landing credit. These changes will follow the important milestone that was reached this summer, when EASA passed a rule that will allow EFVS equipped aircraft a 1/3 visibility credit. Raanan Horowitz, President and Chief Executive Officer of Elbit Systems of America stated “We are very excited about the opportunity to bring value to Embraer’s customers and to the commercial aviation industry. As Embraer’s EFVS partner, we will continue to build on our strong history and bring this game changing technology to solve the problems of the demands on the Air Traffic System. The EVS II product is further evidence of the relentless pursuit of advanced, vision based aircraft technologies by Elbit Systems of America Kollsman”.
