Elbit Systems of America’s Kollsman Enhanced Vision System II Selected for all Gulfstream Aircraft
Merrimack, NH - Elbit Systems of America, LLC a wholly owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ: ESLT) is pleased to announce the Kollsman second generation Enhanced Vision System (EVS II) has been selected for the Gulfstream family of aircraft. After receiving certification for the EVS II on the G350, G450 and G550 at the end of 2007, Gulfstream recently selected the Kollsman EVS II for all of their other models of aircraft to include the G650, Gulfstream’s newest and most advanced cockpit.
The selection marks the continuation of Kollsman’s proud history of providing the worlds most advanced Enhanced Vision System to the Gulfstream line of aircraft. EVS II is part of Kollsman’s Vision Based Cockpit, which provides pilots the ability to turn instrument flights into a Visual Metrological Condition (VMC) like environment, despite the actual conditions of night time, fog, rain, snow, haze, dust, or pollution.
Using dual band infrared technology, coupled with unique processing algorithms, EVSII has superior performance and is now a part of the Federal Aviation Administration’s Next Generation Air Transport System. A 2003 amendment to FAR Part 91.175 allows a pilot to descend from decision height (DH) or minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) to 100 feet above the touchdown zone elevation, even when the runway environment is not visible using the pilot’s natural vision. This capability gives Gulfstream operators ability to get into more airports in poor weather conditions. Gulfstream was also the first aircraft certified under the new European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rules that came into effect summer 2008 which provide a 1/3 visibility credit for Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) equipped aircraft.
Elbit Systems of America President and Chief Executive Officer, Raanan Horowitz, stated “We are pleased to be able to continue our strong partnership with Gulfstream Aircraft Corporation, in providing innovative vision based technologies. As part of the team that has won numerous awards for pioneering EVS products, we are delighted that Gulfstream is continuing to offer that value to their customers.”
