Elbit Systems of America’s Kollsman GAViS™ Selected for Certification on Sikorsky’s S-76 Helicopter
Merrimack, NH - Elbit Systems of America, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems Ltd. (NASDAQ: ESLT) is pleased to announce the Kollsman General Aviation Vision System (GAViS™) has been selected and is undergoing installation and certification activities on the Sikorsky S-76 Helicopter for United Technology’s Flight Department. This represents the first certification of the GAViS™ on rotorcraft marking a new milestone for the GAViSTM product. The Kollsman GAViSTM provides new levels of safety and awareness to the helicopter community particularly in operations such as Executive Transport, Oil Rig Shuttle, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
Pro Star Aviation of Manchester, New Hampshire is completing the installation and certification, but United Technologies also hopes to leverage the certification by offering it as an option through Keystone Helicopters Sikorsky’s completion center for the S-76. The GAViS™ is scheduled to be certified for all variants of the S-76 by the end of 2008.
Packaged in a single, aerodynamic Line Replaceable Unit (LRU), the Kollsman GAViS™ uses state-of-the-art infrared technology providing superior detection performance and is designed for easy installation. The GAViS™ does not require design of a fairing, or installation of any secondary boxes, which is a unique concept of the GAViSTM system. This technology can be a viable alternative for those customers looking at Night Vision Goggle conversions. It provides outstanding situation awareness on a heads down display in both periods of darkness and limited visibility, without having to convert cockpit lighting.
Raanan Horowitz, President and Chief Executive Officer, Elbit Systems of America, stated “We are pleased to be able to make another contribution to enhancing aviation safety, this time through the introduction of the Kollsman GAViSTM to a premier helicopter such as the S-76. We continue to build on 80-year history of providing innovative solutions in aviation and we are proud to be an integral part of improving rotorcraft safety”.
