Kollsman Awarded 2003 Collier Ttrophy as Team Member for the Gulfstream G550
Merrimack NH - The National Aeronautic Association awarded the 2003 Collier Trophy to the Gulfstream G550 team, of which Kollsman, Inc. is a member, for developing an ultra-long-range business jet that included various technological and safety advances.
The G550's greatest safety feature is Kollsman's Enhanced Vision System (EVS). EVS allows pilots to see the runway and the surrounding area in conditions of limited visibility, such as at night and in fog. The system uses a forward-looking infrared camera that projects a real-world image on the cockpit's head-up display to give pilots greater situational awareness.
The Collier Trophy was presented to Kollsman's Executive Vice President and General Manager, Mr. Randy Moore, at a formal dinner held in Arlington, Virginia on May 19th. Mr. Moore stated that " Kollsman's history of the "Kollsman Window" known to all pilots over the past 75 years is now linked to the future with the most significant aviation breakthrough in technology with the window of the future, The Magic Window EVS."
Past winners of the Collier Trophy include Chuck Yeager for breaking the sound barrier (1947), the Apollo 8 (1968) and Apollo 11 (1969) missions, the Boeing 747 (1970) and NASA's development of the space shuttle program (1981). The first Collier Trophy was awarded in 1911 to Glenn Curtiss for development of the first seaplane.
Kollsman, Inc., headquartered in Merrimack, New Hampshire, is a multi-disciplined research, development, manufacturing and support organization which provides advanced avionics, electro-optical and other electronic systems to U.S. and international commercial and military markets.
